If you’re looking to invest and cash in on the latest Tequila craze, you should first know what are your options in the current market. This means you should do your research on the companies that produce the spirit and have their Tequila private label.

Let’s take a look at where the best Tequila brands come from, and things you should consider when creating your Tequila private brand.

Jalisco

Interestingly, there are five states in Mexico with the designation of origin to produce Tequila, however, the best ones are made in Jalisco.

As you already know, Tequila production is a complex process and the flavor often depends on the land where the blue agave is grown. So, if you want to create your own Tequila, you should know the difference between the highlands( Los Altos) and the lowlands (El Valle) of Jalisco.

El Valle

The lowlands (El Valle) are home to famous tequila brands such as Cuervo and Sauza. Interestingly, the area is located a little bit higher than the name implies as it reaches 4,000 feet.

This area is the home of the tiny town of Santiago de Tequila, which dates back to the 1600s. The town is known for its historic haciendas where Tequila was first produced, and in fact, it is still known for its dry, herbal, and earthly flavors.

Piñas, the blue agave plants, are grown near an ancient volcano where soil appears to be greyish-black. Agave plants are much smaller in this area and can reach up to 60-do100 pounds.

Los Altos

Located above the valley, with 6,500 feet above sea level, the Los Altos area started producing Tequila in the 1900s. Today there are quite a few famous brands in the area such as Patron, Tapatio, and Tequila Cazadores.

The soil in Los Altos is very different than in the lowlands. The soil is a characteristic sandy red clay with high minerality. Because of this, the agave plants are much bigger and can grow up to a size of 110–155 pounds. When it comes to taste, tequila produced in the Los Altos area is famous for floral flavors with elements of citrus and a sweeter finish.

Both the highlands and lowlands are beautiful areas. The lowlands are more historic and feature the traditional architecture of old haciendas. However, the highlands are very different, and the combination of red soil and agave plants is absolutely stunning. Also, the temperature in the highlands is much lower, and this affects the tequila production process. This type of weather and terroir is actually better for the Tequila production process and this is why the highlands are famous for their premium 100% agave tequilas.

Tequila Private Label

Some private labels choose to work directly with a distillery. They buy tequila when it’s available and hire a team to take care of the bottling process. If you already have an existing infrastructure and the knowledge to handle all the details such as product development, legal compliance, and supply chains, then a distiller house is the way you should go.

However, you can also hire a team to handle the legal processes such as the denomination of origin and other regulations. Also, you may need another team to take your branding into action. They will have to get everything translated, contact suppliers, and get your brand tested for quality to decide unit costs and budgets.

Finally, someone will also have to take care of logistics, customs regulations, and everything required to get your product to the distributors’ warehouse.

As you can see, this is a complicated and complex process that requires an experienced and skilled team. If you don’t want to worry about your learning curve, you should consider partnering with an integrated beverage developer.

These professionals want their clients to succeed in the market, and so they do everything in their power to make that happen. Their knowledge extends to everything from world markets, consumer trends, branding, to packaging and CRT registration.

They can carefully guide you to a market that will be your starting point. Finally, they will work with you to develop your product, package, and branding until your product is successful.

Summary

Although Tequila is witnessing a boom in popularity, some producers are giving our favorite spirit a bad name. To be honest, some really bad distillers produce cheap blends with added sugars. If you’re planning to get into the industry, work with professionals and maestros tequileros to produce smooth flavors for consumers that appreciate the spirit by sipping it.
